Like Bears Waking From Their Winter Slumber

So are the Graffartists I’ve missed so much. Although I think this time, Anchorage has been tagged by a celebrity of sorts… Crisp is his name and his tagging has been found as far away as Shoreditch in London, England. Perhaps he backpacked here and state at the hostel downtown. All I know is that locals better step up their game. I’m really impressed by this stencil paste-up!

Sticker Graff-artists aka Sticker-iti Scum

20111001-220243.jpg
With the recent attacks on the South-Side Taggers, it looks as if there are Sticker-iti factions springing up on the north-side of town.
I noticed about a month ago, that the photos I took of the graff-art on the south-side of town are all that is left of them. It seems as if the real vandals, do-gooders with buckets of mismatched cement grey and slate blue have been covering the cats and aliens posted around the city. By allowing the do-gooders to destroy the graff-art, the real threat moves in. And by real threat, I mean the Sticker-iti Scum.
Seriously, these half-assed taggers attack helpless poles, windows and newspaper boxes. It’s trivial, really. All they have to do is mass produce the media then simply slap it on, stealth-mode. Where is the art in that? It’s cowardly and without consequence.
At least the South-side taggers have to organize under the guise of anonymity and use stealth, strategy and ingenuity to create their marks. They don’t simply march up to the nearest pole and slap it an undeserving “high-5”!
I say, grab the nearest rattle-can and shake it high, exclaiming, “Boycott the Sticker-iti movement, support your local Graff-artists, build a cement wall!”
Nuff said.

We filmed our first-more-than-three-minutes-movie!!!!

We had entered the Anchorage 48-Hour Film Challenge this month and actually finished, right under the wire!

The film we uploaded to YouTube was the final edit we did after submission to fix the rough cuts, incomplete credits and overpowering music.

I hope you all enjoy it and we are looking forward to making our next “short”!

SSiTT – The Blueberry Waffle Breakfast

Welcome to the first installment of SSiTT or Some Shit i Threw Together.

I try to make somewhat healthy and organic meals that don’t get too terribly boring or mundane. I know a million (give or take a couple) people have food blogs. What makes this one so different? I don’t measure anything! Following recipes is for conformists, and housewives, of which I am neither. What I can tell you is that this will be sporadic at best and sometimes it may not look that good or you’ll think, “GROSS how could anyone think that this would taste good??” but guess what, it’s deeeeeee-lish! Live on the edge, don’t be afraid to try different things and have a good time while being creative.

One rare, lazy morning that Nate and I were able to sleep in, I decided to finally get out of bed and make some blueberry waffles. We had just bought a flat of blueberries from Costco the day before and already they were turning bad (something we have to deal with up here in Alaska, fruit is a rare treat).

If I was to list here HOW I made the waffles, I would be going against my basic principle of cooking, DON’T CONFORM TO THE RECIPE! Live outside the Betty Crocker box!

The ingredients I used were:

Blueberry Puree, Whole Wheat Flour, Free Range Eggs, Coriander, Ground Flaxseed, Cinnamon and Nutmeg.

It was a bit of an experiment to make sure the waffles were done but when the steam stopped rising from the iron and the outside was crispy, they were done. Heavy and full of fiber and goodness!

When the meal was ready we accompanied SpongeBob at the table and ate the waffle topped with Strawberries and Pure maple Syrup, along side a sausage and Organic Fair Trade Coffee.

Mos Def Announces Change in Name: Yasiin Bey

AWESOME CONCERT

MOS DEF-initely a great time!!!!

Mos Def Announces Name Change and Nathan Hall Learns He Can’t Pull-Off a Bandanna in Public

Please watch our video!

Thanks to Synapse Presents and Moose’s Tooth, Mos Def performed August 25th, 2011 at the Moose’s Tooth Parking Lot in Anchorage Alaska. My wonderful man, Nathan Hall purchased the tickets for us and we met up with Jake and his lovely lady KC. Renee and Jason were last minute but perfect additions to the day. The icing on the cake, a surprise sighting from Pete!

During the set Mos Def, nee: Dante Terrell Smith, December 11, 1973, in Brooklyn, NY, announced that he was going to be writing and performing, using his legal name Yasiin Bey. A midst boos and cheers he humbly retired Mos Def and in a concert where he showed much thanks and praise for his family and fans, he chose to share that little bit of news with us. Stating that he would rather let it be known at that time, versus it being announced in Source or Vibe and asked us to share it with our friends and so here were are.

I had a great time at the concert and it was (I’ll refrain and with much trouble, avoid using the “Mos Def” joke that I’ve been playing out for the last week) MOST DEFINITELY a wonderful evening. Hopefully he got to see that moose he was looking for MOoSe DEF-initely! (See I couldn’t help myself!)

The only regret I have is that I didn’t get a photo with him or an autograph to include on the poster that Cheryl scored for me.

Please don’t forget, Nathan has been nominated in the Anchorage Press Pick’s 2011 Poll for Best Local Comic in the Entertainment section, please go and vote daily!!!

Beer, It’s “What’s For Dinner?”

Mmmmm dinner. Not really good to fend off the cold that's coming but the Germans would say that's brauts! Beer cures all ailments, it has the word ale in it!!

I am very surprised that Lindeman’s Lambic Libations weren’t more popular in the West earlier than it has been. It was widely produced in the 80’s and as with everything else “popular” it took about 30 years to make it here to Alaska…

I’m definitely not a beer drinker, I prefer my liquors and girly drinks, and the surprisingly refreshing taste of any of the Lambic versions are perfect to have before during or after dinners. Or in the early evening, out dancing, visiting the stripper joints… etc.

Newly introduced to me, a crazy concoction, Guinness Stout mixed with Lindeman’s Framboise. I thought, this is ridiculous. But the guys really liked it… (insert eyebrow wiggle here). I did try it and still the pungent taste of the Guinness was overpowering, but it was softly kissed with the raspberry tang, so it did make it past my lips, but that was the extent of my Fram-Guinne experience.

This cat ain’t whistling Dixie…or is he?

So we all know that construction workers like to give the ladies a cat-call when they walk by, everyone knows this, all stereotypes are fact, right?

Right now on Huffman there is constant construction. Given this actual fact, I’ve wondered if this latest attack on a helpless piece of concrete isn’t the social commentary of a graff-art tagger from the south-side of Anchorage. The pieces of his collection he is leaving around the area are consistently being removed, or maybe the cat simply ate the seahorse, and is now giving us a hearty belch… Speaking of which, I wonder if the Cat Taggers have defeated the Seahorse Taggers…

Cat is watching you, cat-calling you, you hunky construction workers.
